Babar Azam Moves Up In ICC Test Rankings – Great Chance To Be The Top Ranked ICC Test Batsman

Babar Azam Latest Rankings:

Pakistani captain Babar Azam moves closer to being the top-ranked test batsman in the world and that means he has a chance to be the top-ranked batsman if he performs well with the bat in his upcoming series.

In the latest ICC rankings update, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam has jumped two spots to settle on the #3 position in the ICC test rankings. He has surpassed Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Marnus Labuschange – all these three lost rating points during the ongoing Ashes 2023 series in England.

After the latest Rankings update, Pakistani skipper, Babar Azam is now the number 3 ranked batsman in test cricket, he is just behind Travis Head and Kane Williamson who is the top-ranked test batsman in the world right now in the ICC Rankings.

Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Marnus Labuschange are currently playing in the Ashes 2023 and their bad performances have resulted in cutting their points down and that’s why Babar Azam has moved up in the rankings even before the start of the Pakistan vs Srilanka test match series, which is also a part of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Cycle.

Babar Azam currently stands on 862 rating points and he needs more than 21 points to be the top-ranked test batsman, the #2 ranked batsman, Travis Head has 871 points and Kane Williamson is the #1 ranked batsman with 883 rating points in the ICC Test Rankings.

Babar Azam has a huge chance to overtake Kane Williamson as he is scheduled to play a two-match test series against Srilanka away from home and it will be a great chance for Babar because the #1 test batsman, Kane Williamson hasn’t played any international cricket for a long time, due to an injury.

PAK VS SL: HOW CAN BABAR AZAM BECOME THE #1 RANKED TEST BATSMAN IN ICC RANKINGS?

Babar Azam can fight for the top spot with Kane Williamson on the back of some brilliant performances with the bat in the upcoming test series against Srilanka. If Babar Azam does well with the bat in this two-match test series, he will be the top contender to take the #1 spot from Kane Williamson at the end of this series.

Babar Azam scored some good runs along with a brilliant century on his last tour to Srilanka, he got some good ratings points as well for that impressive knock. So, by the look of things, if Babar Azam can score two centuries on this tour to Srilanka, it will be the best chance for Babar Azam to challenge Kane Williamson for the top spot in the ICC TEST Rankings.

BABAR AZAM ON THE PREVIOUS SL TOUR:

The captain of the Pakistan team scored some tough runs on his last tour to Srilanka, he scored an aggregate of 271 runs with three scores of 50+ in just four innings and gained huge ratings points because of this performance, which is as follows;

AVERAGE67.7
FIFTIES2
CENTURIES1

Babar Azam gained around 50 rating points on his last tour to Srilanka after the first test match when he scored innings of 119 and 55 to help Pakistan win the match. If the Pakistani skipper can produce something similar to that, we are in for some exciting days ahead.

Pakistan is scheduled to play a two-match tests series against the Srilanka team again this year, the first test match will be played on July 16, 2023 – July 20, 2023, and the second test match is scheduled on July 24, 2023 – July 28, 2023.
