CRICKET ASIA CUP 2023 HOSTING RIGHTS, PCB AND BCCI AGAINST EACH OTHER
As far as it is just concerned with hosting rights, the hosting rights for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 are awarded to Pakistan Cricket Board for this year’s Asia Cup but it is not that simple.
STANCE OF BCCI ON ASIA CUP 2023:
PCB was awarded the hosting rights for this tournament but in OCTOBER 2022, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, announced that they will not travel to Pakistan even for the Asia Cup 2023 and this is where all this fuss started.
Indian Cricket Team hasn’t toured Pakistan for a long period of time as they toured Pakistan last time in 2005 – 2006, after that India has not toured Pakistan for any International cricket, and BCCI wants this trend to continue this year as well.
Pakistan and India only play with each other in ICC tournaments that too at a neutral venue and that’s why BCCI took this stance again that will not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 this has to do with a bigger picture because if India doesn’t comes to play the Asia Cup 2023, there will also be questions whether they will come and play the ICC Champions Trophy that is scheduled to be played in Pakistan in 2025 season.
STANCE OF PCB ON HOSTING ASIA CUP 2023:
In this case, the stance of the Pakistan Cricket Board was quite simple if India doesn’t come to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 we will not tour India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well, for the sake of our honor and pride but this can be a huge loss to Pakistan Cricket Board.
NAJAM SETHI ON POTENTIAL LOSS:
So, as we are talking about the losses that PCB has to bear, the head of the PCB management committee, Najam Sethi has revealed that they are ready to bear the loss of $ 3 Million to protect our political stance, that PCB will have to bear in case Pakistan doesn’t play in the Asia Cup 2023 if its shifted outside Pakistan and not to tour India for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup as well.
PCB TO ASIAN CRICKET COUNCIL:
According to reports by the Pakistani media, Pakistan Cricket Board has returned the agreement to host the Asia Cup back to ACC with some amendments in the document, a protest is registered to the Asian Cricket Council in this case of what stance has been taken by the Indian Cricket Board for the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan.
Asian Cricket Council hasn’t responded to the PCB’s protest and amendments till now, but as far as the reports are coming, the alternative venues for the tournament are likely to be Sri Lanka, UAE, etc.
- BY THE LOOK OF THINGS, IT IS EXPECTED THAT THIS FIGHT BETWEEN BOTH BOARDS WILL NOW END AND THERE WILL BE A FINAL DECISION REGARDING THE HOST OF THE ASIA CUP 2023 BY THE ASIAN CRICKET COUNCIL IN SOME DAYS.
