The quality bowling of Afghanistan ripped through England’s batting lineup in their World Cup 2023 group stage match, bowled England out for just 215 runs and got their first win of the tournament by 69 runs against the World Champions.
The captain of England, Joss Buttler won the toss and decided to bowl first against Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023.
FIRST INNINGS:
The Afghan opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz took the charge and scored a brilliant knock of 80 runs from just 57 deliveries, smashing eight fours and four sixes in his innings.
In the middle order, Azmatullah and Alikhil scored some crucial runs for the team followed by the match-changing partnership of 50+ runs between Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Rahman as Afghanistan scored 284 runs in 49.5 overs.
Adil Rashid bowled exceptionally well as he picked up three wickets in his 10 overs. Furthermore, two wickets for Mark Wood and one wicket each were picked by Topley, Livingstone, and Root.
SECOND INNINGS:
Afghanistan started brilliantly as they sent Bairstow, Malan, and Joe Root back to the pavilion for less than 50 runs and England was in all sorts of trouble as they were 5 down for just 117 runs.
Only Harry Brooks scored a brilliant half-century and kept the hopes alive for England in the run chase but apart from that no one really stood up as England was bowled out for just 215 runs.
Harry Brooks was the highest runs scorer for England as he scored 66 runs from 61 deliveries in the run chase of 285 runs against Afghanistan.
Furthermore, In the bowling card, every Afghan bowler including Mujeeb, Rashid, Naveen, Nabi, and Farooqi chipped in and picked wickets of English batters. Mujeeb and Rashid were the pick of the bowlers as both picked up three wickets in the famous victory against England.
A collective effort by the bowlers as well as a brilliant spell by Mujeeb Ur Rehman helped Afghanistan win the match by a huge margin of 69 runs and Afghanistan snatched victory from England in the World Cup 2023.
