NZ Vs AFG 2023: Latham and Phillips Helped New Zealand To Win Against Afghanistan In World Cup 2023

Latham and Phillips Helped New Zealand To Win Against Afghanistan In World Cup 2023:

A brilliant partnership between Philips and Latham gave NZ a good total as New Zealand defended 289 runs against Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023.

The captain of Afghanistan, Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and decided to bowl first against New Zealand in the World Cup 2023.

New Zealand had a good start to their innings as Will Young and Rachin Ravindra attacked after the loss of Devon Conway before Azmatullah created havoc in his first over of the spell.

Azmatullah picked up the wickets of Ravindra and Young in one over for 32 and 54 runs respectively, and Rashid Khan struck in the next over to send Mitchell back to the pavilion for just 1 run.

Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips started the recovery as both scored half-centuries at a good rate and some good finish by Chapman who scored 25 runs from 12 deliveries to post a total of 288 runs in 50 overs.

Naveen and Azmatullah picked up two wickets, and some economical bowling resulted in a wicket each by Mujeeb and Rashid as well in the match.

In the second innings, Boult, Henry, and Ferguson struck one after another and dismissed the top order as Afghanistan was three down for just 43 runs.

Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahmat Shah showed some resistance after the first few wickets fell quickly but that didn’t last long as the Kiwi bowlers continued to pick wickets at regular intervals.

Furthermore, the highest runs scorer of the match for Afghanistan was Rahmat Shah who played slow as he scored 36 runs from 62 deliveries. In the run chase of 289 runs, Afghanistan was bowled out for just 139 runs that too in just 34.4 overs.

Once again Kiwi bowlers bowled brilliantly as Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner picked up three wickets. Trent Boult also picked up two wickets in his 7 overs, and a wicket each was also picked by Ravindra and Henry.
