Pathirana And Asalanka Helped Srilanka To Win The Match Against Bangladesh:
Sri Lanka’s pacer, Matheesha Pathirana, and middle-order batsman, Sadeera Samarawickrama helped Sri Lanka to complete victory over Bangladesh in a low-score thriller.
The captain of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to bat first in the second match of the Asia Cup 2023.
FIRST INNINGS:
The openers of the Bangladesh team, Naim, and Hasan didn’t fire in the first match of their first match of tournament as both were dismissed for low scores.
Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the ship with his brilliant knock of 89 runs, he smashed seven fours in his brilliant knock but missed out on a well-deserved century.
No one from Bangladesh’s batting lineup could create much of a difference as the team could only score a total of 164 runs for the loss of 10 wickets.
Matheesha Pathirana performed brilliantly who picked up four wickets, Maheesh Theekshana dismissed two batters in the match. Silva, Wellalage, and Shanaka picked a wicket each in the match.
SECOND INNINGS:
The top-order of Sri Lanka also failed against the quality pace of Bangladesh, the top three batters collectively made 20 runs in the run chase.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka took responsibility and scored the fifties in the run chase for Sri Lanka.
Sadeera scored 54 runs off 77 deliveries, Asalanka scored 62 runs not out in 92 deliveries and Sri Lanka eventually won the match by 5 wickets.
On the back of some brilliant performances from Pathirana, Sadeera, and Asalanka, Sri Lanka chased down the target of 165 runs with more than 10 overs to spare.
Shakib Al Hasan picked up two wickets in the match. Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mahedi Hasan picked a wicket each but could not stop Sri Lanka from chasing down the target.
The rivalry between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ended in favor of Sri Lanka as they have now won the first group stage match of Asia Cup 2023.
