Proteas had a dream start to their World Cup tournament as they smashed the highest-ever score in the history of World Cup and defeated Srilanka by a huge margin of 102 runs.

The captain of Srilanka, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bowl first in the World Cup 2023 match against South Africa.

FIRST INNINGS:

Srilankan bowlers enjoyed an early wicket of Bavuma but after that it was a power show of South African batters against the Srilankan bowling lineup.

De Kock, Van Der Dussen, and Aiden Markram scored magnificent centuries and it was the first time ever that three centuries were scored in an innings at the World Cup.

100 from de Kock, 108 from RV Dussen, and 106 from Markram along with some quick-fire runs from Klassen and Miller helped SA to reach a record total of 428 runs against Srilanka.

In addition to this, three batters from South African batters scored centuries in the first innings as South Africa scored the highest ever score in the history of the World Cups.

All Srilankan bowler went for plenty in the first innings. Only Madhushanka got two wickets or else there is nothing much to talk about the bowlers of Sri Lanka.

SECOND INNINGS:

In the huge run chase, Srilanka lost two early wickets of Nissanka and Perera as both were bowled by Marco Jansen, which dented the hopes of Srilanka.

The right handed batsman, Kusal Mendis gave some hope as he scored 76 runs on just 42 deliveries, smashing four fours and eight magnificent sixes in his wonderful knock, before getting dismissed to Kagiso Rabada.

Charith Asalanka also showed his class in the middle order where he smashed 79 excellent runs on just 65 deliveries, as well as Dasun Shanaka who scored 68 runs on 62 deliveries.

Furthermore, only Mendis, Asalanka and Shanaka scored half centuries in the run chase which was definitely not enough to chase down the mammoth total of 329 runs against Proteas.

Gerald Coetzee picked three wicket in the second innings against Srilanka. Moreover, two wicket each were picked by Rabada, and Maharaj to bundle Srilanka for 326 runs.
