ICC ANNUAL RANKINGS UPDATE 2023:

Pakistan failed to clinch the #1 spot in the latest annual ICC ODI Rankings update, and Australia have retained their #1 spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings but Pakistan is not far away from Australia in terms of ratings as they are just 2 points away from becoming the top-ranked ODI team in the world, here are the new ICC ODI Team Rankings after the annual update;

Pakistan was ranked as the #1 ODI Team in the ICC Rankings after Pakistan who the fourth ODI match against New Zealand but failed to hold on to that spot amid a loss in the fifth and final ODI match against New Zealand.

A clean sweep against the New Zealand team could’ve helped Pakistan to stay on top after the annual rankings update in the ICC rankings but that’s not the case now as Australia has been ranked at the top with 118 rating points.

ANNUAL RANKINGS UPDATE CRITERIA

The ICC ODI Team’s annual rankings consider all the series completed since May 2020, with the ODI series played by every team before May 2022 weighted at 50 percent and all the series played after this date are weighted at 100 percent and this is how the annual rankings update takes place.

AUSTRALIA CRICKET TEAM:

Australia have improved their rating points to 118 in the latest annual rankings update from 113 points, they have a lead of two points over Pakistan in the latest ICC ODI Team rankings and a lead of three points over the Indian team.

PAKISTAN CRICKET TEAM:

Pakistan Cricket Team has now moved on to the second spot in the latest ICC ODI Team’s rankings as the 4-0 defeat against England Cricket Team just before the 2019 ODI Cricket World Cup is no longer counted in the ICC rankings as well as the 3-0 defeat against the same English Team in 2021 has also reduced its weightage in the ICC rankings which has helped Pakistan Cricket Team to be ranked as the second best ODI team surpassing Indian Team in the rankings after this update.

INDIA AND NEW ZEALAND:

All the other teams suffered a dent in their rankings after this latest annual rankings update, Indian Team lost to Pakistan in the latest update because of the 2-1 series loss at home against Australia this year, New Zealand Team has also been ranked fourth in the latest annual rankings update by the ICC.

ENGLAND CRICKET TEAM:

The team which got the biggest drop in the ratings in the annual rankings update is the England Cricket Team, they have faced a massive 10 points drop after the latest ICC rankings update as they are stranded in the fifth spot with 101 rating points after all the top teams like Australia, Pakistan, India, and New Zealand because their 2019 World Cup season is no longer considered for the ICC rankings update.

SOUTH AFRICA AND BANGLADESH:

There is no change in the spots of South Africa and Bangladesh which are ranked at sixth and seventh spot respectively after the annual update as well. South Africa has been ranked at the sixth spot with 101 rating points equal and Bangladesh is at the seventh spot with 97 rating points after the annual rankings update by the ICC.

AFGHANISTAN:

Afghanistan Cricket Team makes a good leap to the eighth spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings as they have overtaken West Indies and Sri Lanka – they were previously stranded with 71 rating points but now they have got 88 points in the ICC rankings and they have made a good improvement.

SRILANKA AND WEST INDIES:

Sri Lanka and West Indies suffered a drop in the latest ICC ODI rankings, the rating points of Sri Lanka are now 80 which is less than the previous points while West Indies maintain their ratings of 72 points and are ranked at the rock bottom of the top 10 ICC ranked ODI teams in the world.
