This is such a huge achievement for Harry Tector because, in his young career, he won this award after a tough competition with Babar Azam, who we all know been the #1 Ranked ICC Batsman for more than two years and beat a batsman like Babar’s caliber in an award race is something you can be proud of in your career.

He now becomes the first player from the Irish team to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

ICC nominated three batters in the race to win the award for the Player of the Month for May, those three batters include star batsman of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto, the all-format captain of the Pakistan team, and the ICC #1 Ranked ODI batsman, Babar Azam was in the race of this award along with the star batsman of Ireland, Harry Tector, who won this award.

Even though Ireland couldn’t make much of a difference in the World Cup Super League but they have found a future star, Harry Tector scored some impressive knocks in his recent series against Bangladesh, he scored a total of 206 runs in the series, at an impressive average of 103, he scored his highest ODI score in the series against Bangladesh as well.

  • The 23-year-old has a good start to the series, he was batting on 21 not out in the first ODI match when the rain started and eventually, the match was called off and he couldn’t show his abilities.
  • Harry Tector came in the second ODI match when his team was in huge trouble, he scored an extraordinary knock of 140 runs from just 113 balls and smashed seven fours and ten huge sixes in his career-best score of 140 runs against Bangladesh to take his team from 17/2 to a total of 300+ but Ireland lost the match.
  • The young Irish batter once again showed his consistency in the third ODI match, he scored a good knock of 45 runs from just 48 balls, missing out on a half-century in the last ODI match against Bangladesh.

Harry Tector has expressed his happiness on winning this prestigious award from ICC and he thanked everyone who voted for him in this poll, he further acknowledged the performances of his team and is determined to play their A game in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers as well.

‘’ I am delighted with the award and would like to thank all of those who voted for me, however, cricket is a team sport, so the award is more of a reflection on the performances and progress of the Ireland Men’s squad ‘’, Tector added.

‘’ Without the support of Heinrich Malan, Andrew Balbirnie, and the dedicated group of coaches and players I work with, I wouldn’t be able to win this award ‘’, he added.

‘’ This is the first time an Irish player has picked up this Men’s award but I believe it won’t be too much longer until more Irish players are being recognized this way ‘’, he further added.

‘’ Thanks to ICC, but I am sure you all will understand that this will only be a brief moment of reflection as we have a crucial Qualifier starting in a matter of days, and our focus is solely on that over the coming weeks ‘’, he concluded.

The young Irish batter won this prestigious ICC award for the first time in his career on the back of his brilliant performances in ODI cricket last month against Bangladesh.
