IMAD WASIM GIVES HIS STATEMENT ABOUT THE CAPTAINCY AND WORLD CUP SELECTION

IMAD ABOUT CAPTAINCY AND WORLD CUP SELECTION:

Pakistan’s left-arm spinner, Imad Wasim believes that his job is to perform whenever he gets a chance and he is not worried much about things that are not in his control such as selection or captaincy of the Pakistan team.

Imad Wasim even though was out of the team for some time and has recently made a comeback on the basis of his exceptional performances in the Pakistan Super League and hasn’t played any ODI cricket for a long time so, his participation in the ODI World Cup 2023 is also in doubt.

The Left arm Pakistani spinner has always been as a very strong candidate to be in the management roles of the Pakistan team, he was also a very strong candidate to replace Shadab Khan as the vice-captain of the Pakistan team. Shan Masood was also named as the deputy of Babar Azam during the home series against New Zealand when he replaced Shadab Khan but Babar Azam didn’t even include him in the playing XI of the first three matches of the ODI series.

In his recent interview with Cricket Pakistan, Imad Wasim stated that he doesn’t care much about the captaincy role or his selection in the Pakistan team and he believes that captaincy or selection is not in his control and that’s why he just focuses on his individual performance.

Imad Wasim expressed his views regarding his selection in the Pakistan team and he said that he isn’t really bothered about the selection because that is not in his hands and he just tries to enjoy his cricket whenever he plays for any team.

‘’ Only controllable things should be controlled, and you should not worry about things that you can’t control. I don’t have any control over captaincy or any control over who gets picked for the team. So, I don’t really worry about these things. I am enjoying my cricket and I am happy to play for Pakistan and it is what makes me proud. I love playing cricket whether it’s for the National Pakistan team or any league cricket all around the world, I play with passion but for me, pride and dignity are even more important than passion ‘’, he added.

In his latest interview, Imad Wasim was also asked his views on what he thinks regarding his selection in Pakistan’s ODI World Cup squad later this year in India, he said that he doesn’t have any authority regarding the selection but he is available to serve Pakistan, whenever he is needed.

‘’ Honestly, if you ask me, I am not worried or thinking about the selection in the World Cup squad. It’s up to them, what they decide. However, I am available for my team anytime because serving Pakistan is the best thing and there is nothing better than representing Pakistan. So, if anything happens like this, I will welcome that but honestly, I am not really thinking about my selection because this is something that is not in my control ‘’, he further added.

The left-arm Pakistani spinner played his last ODI match way back in 2020 against Zimbabwe and since that, he hasn’t played any 50-overs cricket for the Pakistan team. He was also not picked in the recently concluded ODI series of Pakistan against New Zealand. An outside chance is always there but looks like he isn’t in the plans of team management for the upcoming World Cup in India.

Imad Wasim made his ODI debut for the Pakistan team in 2015 and has represented Pakistan in 55 ODI matches – he has picked up 55 wickets at an average of 44.5 and has scored around 1000 runs at an average of 43 in ODI cricket, at a strike-rate of more than 110 for Pakistan.
