Muhammad Amir To Get British Citizenship:

Muhammad Amir has already played in England many times in county cricket as an overseas player, but now as per the reports, he is all set to feature in the county championship as a local player once he gets his British Citizenship.

According to the reports from Telegraph, Pakistan’s former cricketer, Muhammad Amir is all set to feature in the County Cricket Championship as a local player.

The Telegraph has reported that the County Championship team, Derbyshire is willing to make a deal with Muhammad Amir, and with this contract, Muhammad Amir will be able to play County Cricket for Derbyshire as a local player once he gets his British passport.

Muhammad Amir retired from international cricket in 2020 and is all set to get British Citizenship because he is married to a British Citizen, Narjis Khan. The former Pakistani pacer has already applied for British Citizenship and he is all set to get the British Nationality in just around one year.

In a recent interview, Muhammad Amir was asked about his international comeback for Pakistan to which he replied that he isn’t thinking that way now as he is getting old and there are many young players that have emerged for Pakistan to play and perform in international cricket.

This means that the former Pakistani pacer, Muhammad Amir has shifted his focus from playing international cricket for his country as he is all set to obtain British Citizenship and will feature in overseas leagues all around the world.

Muhammad Amir has played so much cricket in England as an overseas player and With Muhammad Amir, all set to acquire British Citizenship, doors of the County Cricket Championship as well as The Hundred Tournament will be opened for him as a local player. Muhammad Amir featured in the last season of ‘’ The Hundred ‘’ tournament and once he gets his British Citizenship, he will be available for all teams as a local player and given his performances in the past, teams will definitely want to add Muhammad Amir to their squad.

When Muhammad Amir will be a British Citizen, he will also be eligible to play in the Indian Premier League, even though Pakistani players aren’t allowed in the league but he can feature in the league on his British passport. I.e. Azhar Mahmood played in the Indian Premier League because he also has dual British Nationality.

In his recent interview with a local TV channel, the former Pakistani cricketer, Muhammad Amir was also asked about his future plans about playing in the Indian Premier League to which he replied, that as soon as he gets British Citizenship, he will look forward to the best possible opportunity that will come towards him. He said that he is not thinking about playing IPL at the moment, and once he will get the British Passport and then he will look to make a decision.

As per the reports, now it’s almost certain that the retired Pakistani cricketer, Muhammad Amir, who used to be Pakistan’s premium pacer in his playing days is now looking forward to obtaining British Nationality and his focus is now solely on playing international leagues, and settling in England as well as playing professional cricket in England.

Muhammad Amir has played 147 international matches for Pakistan in international cricket and picked up 259 wickets for Pakistan in his international career before his retirement in 2020. He was banned for five years for a match-fixing scandal in 2010 but PCB made arrangements for him to come back in international cricket in 2016. He was an important member of the Pakistani attack from 2016 – 2019. He was out of the Pakistan team because of some fitness issues and lack of performance but he alleged that the coach and management of the Pakistan team are against him and took a shocking retirement from international cricket in 2020.
