SHAHID AFRIDI, SELECTION COMMITTEE WANTED TO REPLACE BABAR AZAM AS CAPTAIN, NAJAM SETHI INTERVIEW

When there was a power transfer in the PCB from Ramiz Raja to Najam Sethi, everyone was sacked including the coaches, and selectors, Shahid Afridi was appointed as the head of the selection committee for the Pakistan National Team for the upcoming home series vs NZ.

The current chairman of PCB, Najam Sethi while speaking to a YouTube channel revealed that the selection panel which was appointed for the home series and was led by former captain Shahid Afridi wanted many things to change, also they wanted to replace Babar Azam as the captain of Pakistan team as well.

Najam Sethi said that even though the selection committee, where there was Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Rao Iftikhar, and Haroon Rasheed who is also the current chief selector of the Pakistan team wanted Babar to be replaced but later changed their decision and decided that they will continue with Babar Azam as the captain of the Pakistan team.

‘’ As soon as I took charge, an interim selection committee under Shahid Afridi was made to select the team for the NZ series, they first told us that they want to replace Babar Azam as captain but soon they changed their stance and said that they will continue with Babar Azam as captain and there is no need to change the captain ‘’, Najam Sethi

Babar Azam was retained as the captain of the Pakistan team and still going strong, Even though everyone was happy with the decisions and inclusions which Afridi made as a chief selector but still after the series, Shahid Afridi resigned from the post of Chief Selector of Pakistan Team.

Babar Azam was rested for the Afghanistan series but he is back as National captain for the home series, Pakistan vs New Zealand series will take place from APRIL – MAY, all the details regarding this series are already uploaded.

Najam Sethi in his interview further said that there are no doubts that the Asia Cup 2023 will be played in Pakistan, the neutral venue for India is yet to be decided, but there are no excuses not to host Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan because there are no security issues in Pakistan now and everyone knows this is a fact.
