Sunil Narine Becomes The First Ever To Receive Red Card In CPL 2023

Sunil Narine Becomes The First Ever To Receive Red Card In CPL 2023:

The right-arm spinner, Sunil Narine becomes the first ever to receive a red card in the Caribbean Premier League history.

Sunil Narine playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL 2023 gets the first-ever red card in a CPL match.

This red card penalty was introduced by the Caribbean Premier League’s officials for the slow over-rates in the CPL 2023 season, and Sunil Narine is the first cricketer to be affected by this new rule.

In the CPL 2023, every team has to make sure that they are bowling their 20 overs of an innings in the allotted 85 minutes and if that doesn’t happen, the fielding team gets a red card from the umpires.

RED CARD RULES:

As per the rules, the red card is given to a fielding team, if the team is behind the schedule before the start of the final over of the innings, and the team will lose a player in the final over.

  • IF TEAMS ARE BEHIND THE REQUIRED OVER RATE BEFORE THE START OF THE 18TH OVER, ONE MORE FIELDER ENTERS THE CIRCLE, MAKING IT A TOTAL OF 5 FIELDERS INSIDE THE CIRCLE.
  • IF TEAMS ARE STILL BEHIND THE REQUIRED OVER RATE BEFORE THE START OF THE 19TH OVER, TWO FIELDERS WILL ENTER THE CIRCLE, MAKING IT A TOTAL OF 6 FIELDERS INSIDE THE CIRCLE.
  • IF THE SAME OVER RATE CONTINUES BEFORE THE 20TH OVER OF THE MATCH, THE TEAM WILL LOSE A PLAYER, FROM THE FIELD THAT WILL BE SELECTED BY THE CAPTAIN.

When Knight Riders were docked with the red card, Sunil Narine was forced to leave the field but fortunately had bowled his four overs, and picked three wickets for just 24 runs.

Knight Riders were left with 10 players for the final over of the match but they still managed to restrict the Nevis Patriots for 178 runs in the CPL 2023 match.

Nicholas Pooran, Lorcan Tucker, Keiron Pollard, and Andre Russel fired in the run chase as Knight Riders chased down the target and won the match by 6 wickets.
