LPL 2023:

The captain of the Pakistan team, Babar Azam made his debut in this season of the LPL 2023, just as a player, and Chaminda Vaas revealed why Babar Azam is playing for Strikers just as a player, and not as captain.

Babar Azam, as we all know is the world’s joint-most successful T20I captain with Eoin Morgan. He has led Pakistan to 42 wins in T20 international cricket and a player of his caliber not leading an LPL franchise raises many questions.

Babar Azam was signed for the LPL 2023 by Colombo Strikers and fans were expecting Babar Azam to be announced as the captain of the Colombo Strikers for this season, which eventually didn’t happen and Niroshan Dickwella was announced as the captain of the Strikers in LPL 2023.

Chaminda Vaas, the bowling coach of the Colombo Strikers revealed why the captain of the Pakistan team isn’t playing in the Lanka Premier League 2023 as a captain of Colombo Strikers.

In conversation with Hindustan Times, Chaminda Vaas has revealed that Babar Azam didn’t want the captaincy as he just wants to focus on his batting and the team management respected his decision and that’s why the captaincy of the Colombo Strikers was handed over to the wk batsman, Niroshan Dickwella.

‘’ Babar wanted to play just as a batsman and we respected his decision. If you take Babar Azam, we all know he is the number one batsman in the world and the way he performs and contributes to his team is amazing ‘’, Chaminda Vaas added.

In the second match of Colombo Strikers, Babar Azam as a batsman batted on a tough pitch as a long warrior for his team, as no player crossed 30 runs in the match. He scored his maiden half-century in Lanka Premier League and was adjusted Man of the Match for his 59 runs knock against B-Love Kandy.

Niroshan Dickwella was also impressed by the knock of Babar Azam and in a post-match presentation, he said that Babar’s inning was the reason that we won the match as he didn’t give up on a difficult wicket and that gave us a good score to defend.

‘’ We have to learn from the best as he didn’t give up. It was not easy to bat on that wicket but he was there till the end. The innings gave us a good score to defend ‘’, Niroshan Dickwella praised Babar Azam

The bowling coach of the Colombo Strikers also highlighted the same thing as he praised the talent and work ethics of the Pakistani captain. He thinks that Babar Azam playing in the Lanka Premier League is a huge opportunity for youngsters to learn from one of the world’s best players.

‘’ All the youngsters can learn from him. I am so excited to see him play in the Lanka Premier League season ‘’, he added.

Chaminda Vaas also highlighted the presence of the right-arm Pakistani pacer, Naseem Shah in the Colombo Strikers and he thinks that it’s a great experience to be a part of such a dressing room.
