Shakib Leads Bangladesh To A Comfortable Win Over Afghanistan In World Cup 2023:
A great start to the 2023 World Cup campaign for the Bangla Tigers as they thrashed Afghanistan in their first match of the World Cup by 6 wickets.
The captain of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to bowl first against Afghanistan.
FIRST INNINGS:
Gurbaz showed promise at the star, he ended as the highest runs scorer of the innings for Afghanistan as he scored 47 runs on 62 deliveries, smashing four fours and one six.
The middle order of Afghanistan didn’t show any resistance as the second-highest score of Afghan innings was just 22 runs, and as a result, Bangladesh bowled out Afghanistan for 156 runs.
Shakib Hasan and Mehidy Hasan picked up three wickets each and gave 30 and 25 runs respectively. Shoriful Islam picked two wickets for 34 runs and one wicket each for Taskin and Mustafizur.
SECOND INNINGS:
In the run chase, Afghanistan struck early in the powerplay as they sent both openers of Bangladesh back to the pavilion for just 27 runs.
Tanzid Hasan scored 5 runs off 13 deliveries and Liton Das scored 13 runs off 18 deliveries before getting dismissed to Naveen Ul Haq in the powerplay.
In the middle order, Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored a brilliant 57 runs off 73 deliveries and built a match-winning partnership with Najmul Shanto who scored 55 runs off 85 deliveries.
Only Fazalhaq Farooqi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Naveen Ul Haq picked one wicket each for Afghanistan but that wasn’t enough as Bangladesh chased down the target in 35 overs.
