BCCI AND PCB TO MAKE A CONTRACT REGARDING THE ASIA CUP 2023

ASIA CUP 2023:

The 2023 Asia Cup was scheduled to take place this year in Pakistan but India refused to tour Pakistan for this year’s Asia Cup tournament which started a war-like situation between both boards.

BCCI was adamant that they will not let the Asia Cup 2023 happen in Pakistan and will not send their team to play the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan, even though Pakistan was the host country still, they wanted the entire tournament to be shifted out of Pakistan. PCB was firm on their stance that they will not play if Asia Cup 2023 is shifted out of Pakistan and PCB chairman even warned India that they will not tour India for the ICC 2023 World Cup if Asia Cup 2023 is not played in Pakistan.

HYBRID MODEL FOR ASIA CUP 2023:

The head of the PCB management committee, Najam Sethi in order to save the Asia Cup 2023 proposed a hybrid model for all the teams in the Asia Cup;

  • AS PER THE MODEL, THE INITIAL FOUR MATCHES OF THE GROUP STAGE WILL BE PLAYED IN PAKISTAN.
  • ALL TEAMS WILL TOUR PAKISTAN AS THEIR ONE MATCH WILL BE SCHEDULED TO PLAY IN PAKISTAN, EXCEPT INDIA.
  • THE NEXT PHASE OF THE ASIA CUP 2023 WILL BE PLAYED AT A NEUTRAL VENUE OUTSIDE PAKISTAN.
  • THE FINAL OF THE TOURNAMENT WILL ALSO BE PLAYED AT A NEUTRAL VENUE.

ASIA CUP 2023 NEUTRAL VENUE:

UAE is most likely to be the neutral venue for the 2023 Asia Cup, another option that is under review is Sri Lanka because of the heat wave in the UAE, any other venue will be chosen for the safety of players.

The head of the PCB, Najam Sethi has also given hints that they have checked the availability of the Lords Cricket Ground as well, he has also expressed his wish to move the Asia Cup 2023 in England as a neutral venue.

PCB chairman Najam Sethi was sure that India will accept this model and if that’s not the case, he has given this statement on Indian TV channels as well that Pakistan will pull out of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup and that was the final warning for BCCI to accept the model.

PCB & BCCI AGREEMENT:

Now as per the media reports, PCB and BCCI want to end this deadlock as both want a contract to assure that their teams will travel to respective countries in the upcoming ICC tournaments.

  • BCCI WANTS TO USE THIS MOMENT AS THEY WANT ASSURANCE FROM PCB THAT THEY WILL SEND THEIR TEAM TO PLAY IN THE 2023 WORLD CUP IN INDIA LATER THIS YEAR.
  • PCB IS YET TO GIVE A REPLY IN THIS REGARD BUT IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE CONDITION FROM THE BCCI WILL BE ACCEPTED BY THE PAKISTAN CRICKET BOARD.

News that is coming in this regard is that PCB can also play its cards as they will also want a written assurance from BCCI that they will send their team to play the ICC Champions Trophy in the 2025 season, it must be noted that the 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played in Pakistan as they have the won the hosting rights for this ICC tournament.

PCB doesn’t want any more issues on this name thing in 2025 during the Champions Trophy from the Indian Board that they will not send their team and that’s why PCB wants assurance from the BCCI to confirm that they will not create any fuss at the time of 2025 Champions Trophy.
