CHANGE IN VENUES EXPECTED FOR T20 WORLD CUP 2024 AND ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025
NEW VENEUS FOR T20 WORLD CUP 2024 AND ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025:
According to the latest reports from NEWS18, there might be a shift of venues for two of the big upcoming ICC events, the World Cup and Champions Trophy might shift from Windies and Pakistan respectively.
ICC TO SHIFT T20 WORLD CUP 2024 TO ENGLAND?
The 2024 T20 World Cup that was scheduled to be played in Windies and USA and the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy were awarded to Pakistan but now we might see a change in the venues for the above both tournaments as ICC wants some changes in the hosting of both upcoming ICC events.
- The upcoming T20 world cup that was scheduled to be played in Windies and USA is now expected to be played in England and they might swap the 2024 T20 World Cup with England for the hosting rights of the 2030 t20 world cup.
ICC wants to change the venue because they are not happy with the infrastructure that is currently not good enough in the USA to host the matches of the World Cup 2024 and ICC might request England Cricket Board to get ready for the hosting of the 2024 T20 World Cup as it will give enough time for Windies and USA to get their grounds and infrastructure ready for the mega event for the 2030 T20 World Cup.
There are strong reports that Windies and the USA might swap their upcoming T20 World Cup with England and some other countries like Scotland, and Ireland – these countries were awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 T20 World Cup which will be given to Windies and USA.
ICC TO SHIFT 2025 CHAMPIONS TROPHY TO WINDIES?
Now with all these reports, there are further reports that ICC might also request Pakistan Cricket Board to give their allotted ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to Windies and USA.

International Cricket Council will make a request to the Pakistan Cricket Board so that they can shift the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to Windies and UAE, they think WI and UAE will be ready to host a tournament with fewer matches like Champions Trophy 2025 and for that, ICC will also compensate Pakistan monetarily for their loss.
REASON FOR CHANGE IN VENUES:
The stakeholders also feel that the ICC T20 World Cup in Windies will be a loss-making proposition for the broadcasters and that’s why ICC wants to move World Cup out of Windies and in return, they will be asked to Host ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
All the relevant ICC authorities don’t want the 2024 T20 World Cup to be played in Windies and USA, they don’t want another T20 World Cup failure like ICC faced in the 2007 Cricket World Cup as West Indies failed to host the World Cup successfully in 2007.
- ICC is looking for a win-win situation, they want to give the hosting of the Champions Trophy 2025 to West Indies so even if the tournament doesn’t get much of a success, ICC and broadcasters don’t have to face much of a loss because it is a relatively smaller tournament and that means it is a lesser financial risk as well.
It is because there are fewer matches in the ICC Champions Trophy as compared to the World Cup and ICC feels Windies and USA will be ready in about a year to host the Champions Trophy in 2025 and Pakistan will be given the compensation money from the ICC if they are willing to accept this model of ICC.
It is also planned to give hosting of Champions Trophy to Windies and USA because there is no need for much infrastructure to host this small tournament as only two to three grounds are enough for both countries to host this ICC event and for that to get in place, both countries also have a time frame of around 1 year.
WILL PCB AGREE ON SHIFTING THE CHAMPIONS TROPHY?
We don’t know whether Pakistan Cricket Board will agree to this proposal of swapping tournaments by ICC but there might be a possibility that PCB will accept this if ICC requests them because even though tournaments were allotted and announced by ICC but still there is no agreement signed between all these countries and ICC might request these last minutes changes from the respective boards.
As per the reports from News18, these changes expected are still in the early stages and are only verbal discussions as of now. This will be under discussion and if all things progress smoothly, the changes might be done by International Cricket Council.
