MEHRAN MUMTAZ TALKS ABOUT HIS CRICKET JOURNEY – FROM A FAST BOWLER TO A SPIN SENSATION

MEHRAN MUMTAZ TALKS INTERVIEW:

In his latest interview by PCB, Mehran Mumtaz, the young left-arm spinner of Pakistan talked about his start as a spin bowler, and along with some of the key moments of his career, he also revealed his favorite bowlers in world cricket.

Mehran Mumtaz is a young left-arm spinner that plays for Pakistan and there was a sudden rise in the stocks of the left-arm spinner, after his brilliant bowling performances in domestic as well as on recent tours.

The 20-year-old left-arm spinner shared his cricket journey and says that he wanted to become a fast bowler because his favorite bowler was Muhammad Amir but then eventually he shifted to bowling spin after his coaches suggested doing so, but after he started to bowl as a left-arm spinner, he claimed many wickets in domestic cricket and this is how he started his professional cricket career.

 ‘’ I started my cricket as a fast bowler, for 2-3 years I played as a fast bowler but then my coach asked me to bowl left-arm spin. Even though I doesn’t want to be a left-arm spinner because my favorite bowler was Muhammad Amir but then my coach asked me to try it once so when I bowled for 4-5 months, I shifted towards left-arm spin. ‘’ Mehran Mumtaz talked about his early career.

‘’ Even though I wasn’t willing to start bowling spin because I wanted to be a fast bowler but then after I started to bowl spin. I played regional cricket, and every year my performances as a left-arm spinner improved, I topped the wickets charts in both years I played and this is how all this started ‘’, he further added.

Mehran Mumtaz also talked about some memories of his U-16 tour, he says that he played U-16 cricket with a fast bowler, Naseem Shah who was his team-mate in those days and now is currently one of the best bowlers in world cricket.

‘’ I was picked in the U-16 team of Pakistan along with players like Naseem Shah, we both toured together and after this, I completely shifted toward spin ‘’, he further added.

In his latest interview by PCB, the youngster was also asked to name some of his favorite spinners, Mehran Mumtaz named three left-arm spinners – Daniel Vettori, Muhammad Nawaz, and Imad Wasim are those to whom he looks up as a youngster.

‘’ There are many left-arm spinners, if you talk about international cricket then Daniel Vettori is my favorite – If you talk about the Pakistan team, I follow the bowling of left-arm spinners like Muhammad Nawaz and Imad Wasim, I have learned many things from them in bowling ‘’, he further added.

The young Pakistani spinner also talked about the focus on his batting and says that he started his professional career as a left-arm bowler but he added batting so that he can contribute more to his team. He is also determined, that he is ready to play for Pakistan whenever there will be a call-up from the National Pakistan team.

‘’ I started my career as a bowler but as soon as I entered U-19 cricket, my coaches helped me in this regard and asked me to start batting as well because batting will help you to excel and compete more in international cricket. I have learned so much from this camp, I am willing to avail my chance and perform so, whenever the selectors will feel, I am ready to play for Pakistan ‘’, he concluded.

Mehran Mumtaz recently toured Zimbabwe with Pakistan Shaheens and was one of the top wicket-takers on that tour, he played two TEST matches on that tour against Zimbabwe and picked up 19 wickets in those matches and with these impressive performances, he is definitely one of the top contenders to make his TEST debut for Pakistan soon.
