Pakistan Eliminated From The Asia Cup 2023:
The match between Pakistan and Srilanka was basically the semi-final of the Asia Cup 2023 and Srilanka won the match to qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 final.
Srilanka chased won the target of 252 runs DLS target and won the match by 2 wickets against Pakistan to knock them out of the 2023 Asia Cup tournament.
There were quite of few forced changes in the Pakistan team from the previous match as four of the main players were injured and replaced by benched players.
The captain of the Pakistan team, Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first in the game against Srilanka.
FIRST INNINGS:
The openers of the Pakistan team, Abdullah Shafique scored his maiden fifty in ODI cricket but Fakhar Zaman failed to score again as he was dismissed for 4 runs off 11 deliveries.
The Pakistani captain, Babar Azam had a good start but he failed to convert his innings into a big one as he scored 29 runs off 35 deliveries before getting dismissed to Wellalage.
Muhammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed scored the bulk of the runs for the team. Rizwan scored unbeaten 86 runs off just 73 deliveries and Iftikhar scored 47 runs on just 40 deliveries.
Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of the bowlers for Srilanka who picked up three wickets for 65 runs, Madushan also picked two wickets in the match against Pakistan.
SECOND INNINGS:
In the run chase of 252 runs, Kusal Mendis was the start of the show who scored brilliant 91 runs from 87 deliveries after a shaky start from the Lankan openers.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Asalanka handled things in the middle overs and continued the momentum for Srilanka. Sadeera scored 48 runs and Asalanka scored 49 runs which helped them cross the finish line on the ball of the match.
Shaheen Shah Afridi tried his best to change the game at the back end with back-to-back wickets and gave 8 runs to Zaman Khan in the last over to defend.
In his debut match, Zaman Khan bowled the last over of the match and almost pulled off victory for Pakistan but Asalanka held his nerves and scored the winning runs for his team.
Srilanka has now qualified for the final of the Asia Cup 2023 and they will play the final against India on 17 SEPTEMBER, 2023.
