World Cup 2023: Centuries From Conway And Ravindra Helped NZ To Win The WC Opener Against ENG

Centuries From Conway And Ravindra Helped NZ To Win The WC Opener Against ENG:

Two Kiwi batters scored centuries in the chase of 283 runs which helped New Zealand win the World Cup opener against England at Ahmedabad Stadium.

In the absence of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham as captain of New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first in the World Cup opener against England.

FIRST INNINGS:

England had an excellent start to the first innings but New Zealand struck at regular intervals and dented the scoring rate of the English batters.

Joe Root was the highest runs scorer of the match for England who scored 77 runs on 86 deliveries with four fours and one six before getting dismissed by Glen Phillips.

Apart from Joe Root, no other batsman was able to score 50+ against NZ but every English batter chipped into the total score and England ended up with a total of 282 runs as a fighting total.

Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers for NZ who picked up three wickets for just 48 runs in his 10 overs, followed by two wickets each for Santner and Phillips.

SECOND INNINGS:

Will Young, the Kiwi opener was dismissed on a golden duck in the first over of Sam Curran and had a great start but this was the first and last wicket they celebrated in the match.

Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra batted magnificently after the first wicket as both batters scored centuries in the run chase of 283 runs against England.

Conway scored 152 runs on just 121 deliveries, scoring nineteen fours and two sixes in his marathon knock and Ravindra scored 123 runs on just 96 deliveries, smashing eleven fours and five sixes in the run chase.

Only Sam Curran picked up one wicket for England and there is nothing to talk about the rest in the English bowling line-up as NZ chased down the target of 283 runs comprehensively by 9 wickets.
